Black's game plan: Play solid while pawn up

Taking the pawn at e4 on move 8, looks promising for black. But the compensation being pawn down when black has difficulties developing queenside pieces which is paramount to white's clear advantage in the middle game.

2nd Game: Check diagram below (GAME VIEWER 2)

Black's Game Plan: defense is the main plan

White did all to complicate the position in the middle game. But black's play was too solid resulting in a draw.
