GM Kateryna Lagno : 5. Be3 line vs. The Pirc Defense

06/12/2021 –  Black used the 2…g6 line to divert the game in a different Pirc Format. Although it has similar make-up, the difference lies on execution. GM Kateryna Lagno has vast experience and understanding on this line as it is shown in Game 1. A chess prodigy, she became WGM at the age of 12.

Ukrainian GM Olexandr Bortnyk handled the 4. Be3 line fiercely against a very talented teen GM Nihal Sarin from India.  It  is an exciting game, both wanted to win but time is also a part of the game which is the deciding factor on the outcome of this fantastic game. But first, enjoy your hot and delicious coffee…

The dangerous "Alapin Variation"

25/10/2021 –    The Sicilian Defense is considered the most aggressive black chess opening versus 1. e4. Many World Champs have used it to win the title such as GM Gary Kasparov, GM Robert “Bobby Fischer and GM Mikhail Tal. Even super genius GM Judit Polgar’s Sicilian play is so entertaining to watch  and learn. But the emergence of Anti-Sicilian variations in GM Level tournaments,   Alapin 2. c3, now a  perfect weapon to tame the wild Sicilian Defense.

Our featured two games explained why the Alapin variation is so cunning when both World Champ GM Magnus Carlsen and GM Welsey So attempted to win but with Alapin’s systematic approach and tactical flare, white successfully delivered. It’s just nice chess games to learn and be entertained as well. But coffee first…

GM Wesley So: 2...Nf6 line

1st Game : Check diagram below (GAME VIEWER 1)

alapinnf6

The 2...Nf6 line is preferable to play against the Alapin set-up. However, In this game, black's delayed development and uncastled king is more than enough for the teen GM to take advantage and win against GM Wesley So.

GM Magnus Carlsen: 2...d5 line

2nd Game: Check diagram below (GAME VIEWER 2)

GM David Smerdon of Australia playing board 1 in 2016 Chess Olympiad had big shoes to fill. It's like a David vs Goliath match. But using his favorite Alapin 2..c3 versus World Champ GM Magnus Carsen, he controlled the position and had a chance to annihilate the black king. Luckily, black found a drawing move that forced a perpetual check.

Climate Change: News and Events

Memory Chisel has Self-Care strategies to combat mental stressors due to Climate Change.

Memory Chisel’s platform also informs the public about what is happening on increasing crisis caused by climate change.

Mental Health is the No. 1 concern globally due to pandemic, war in Ukraine, high cost of living and feeling of uncertainty...

Dementia Australia Chair, Prof Graeme Samuel AC, said on behalf of the half a million people living with dementia and the 1.6 million people involved in their care Dementia Australia is extremely grateful for the $229.4 million allocated in this budget to dementia (https://www.dementia.org.au/about-us/media-centre/media-releases/governments-229m-investment-will-transform-dementia-care)

Dementia Australia also has several educational and entertaining virtual reality technology and Apps to deliver experiential learning aimed at increasing empathy (https://www.dta.com.au/the-virtual-forest/).

It has been a roller coaster event for many organizations dedicated to solving the increasing numbers of people susceptible and suffering from Onset Alzheimer’s. https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6576071408886046720/

What makes us vulnerable to this disease, why people are diagnosed too late and the effects on family and economic burden has been unacceptable to cope with. I have taken care of patients with Dementia during my nursing clinical placements, and I realized the dilemma of how difficult it is to manage a person with almost total loss of memory. How much more to the family who has just vanished or erasedunrecognizable faces came to visit her, felt like strangers…

The Australian Government has acted decisively to protect lives and livelihoods with $311 billion in health and economic support which has been central to Australia’s world‑leading response to COVID‑19.

This Budget extends a range of COVID‑19 health response measures which continue to protect Australians’ health throughout the pandemic. These measures include support to continue access to telehealth, COVID‑19 testing and support for residential aged care (https://budget.gov.au/2021-22/content/covid.htm).

Memory Chisel is focused on looking for answers since there is no cure yet for this deadly disease. We are into indicators of loss memory or incurring memory lapses by recreational memory testing and cognitive testing using App or Web based (https://www.clinicalomics.com/news-and-features/feasibility-study-finds-informative-digital-biomarkers-of-dementia). By answering some tests online, we may measure data to compare results as well as we also conduct brain stimulation activities such as teaching online chess (https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/what-dementia-symptoms-types-and-diagnosis ).

Chess has the full capacity to activate the 4 lobes (frontal, temporal, parietal and occipital) of the brain by learning how to play the game of chess. Many scientific studies have already proven that chess can maximize your brain neuroplasticity (https://www.mdpi.com/1660-4601/16/12/2116/htm ). Being a chess master, I have not encountered an active chess player (club player, online chess, street chess and tournament player) with onset Alzheimer’s.

Neuroplasticity -the ability of the brain to rewire (http://theconversation.com/what-is-brain-plasticity-and-why-is-it-so-important-55967 ). The more our brain stimulates the more healthy our brain runs.

Covid19 pandemic has devastated the lives of people globally. We must move on, be strong to fight back and claim back our normal lives.

Being the Founder of Memory Chisel), I encourage everyone of all ages to engage in physical exercise, start engaging in mental exercises such as playing chess. Also, do not forget to engage in social activities, healthy balanced diet, community engagements, and a power nap.  Memory Chisel’s platform aims to help the brain stay sharp…Happy to serve the community….
